Flying the Red, White and Black
For a second consecutive year, St. Anthony’s College has been chosen to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the 2013 Regional International Copa Coca-Cola Football Tournament. This is as a result of being the 2012 Coca-Cola National Intercol Winner.
The Tournament would be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from September 24, 2013 to September 29, 2013. The other competitors are Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
The team selected is St. Anthony’s College Under 16 team participating as an Under 15 team in the competition. Some five players who participated in last year’s competition in Colombia were selected to be part of this year’s Costa Rica team. They are Nicholas Moyou (Captain), Shem Clauzel, Matthaeus Granger, Rahem Borde and Nicaya Mahon. Nicaya Mahon was subsequently injured in the Republic Bank Under 15 competition and was replaced by newcomer Derron John. The other members of the team are Adrian Pajotte, Akiel Collins, Aaron Chin Fang, Christian Best, Rivaldo Brown, Joshua Thongs, Isaiah Holder Mc Clean, Jomal Clairmont, Emmanuel Olive, Yevan Rajpaul and Oba Augustine.
Accompanying the team are School Principal, Mr. Maurice Inniss, Mr. Brian Smith as Coach and Senior Footballer Kiel Pierre as Team Journalist. Other officials embedded with the team include Executive Manager of SPORTT and President of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), Mr. Anthony Creed, General Secretary of the SSFL, Mr. Azaad Khan, Marketing Activations Manager, Ms. Maritza Ballack and Mr. Russell Callender, Trade Marketing Supervisor, both of The Coca-Cola Company.
The team began earnest training in July 2013 and participated in the Republic Bank Cup as Westside Superstars FC Under 15. The training under Mr. Smith paid off as they won the North Zone title and later emerged as Republic Bank Cup Champions.
With the wind in their sails and much expected of them in Costa Rica, the Staff of the College and Parents of the players wish the team all the best in the coming days.
